Thing 3

Feb. 15 RSS feeds etc.

This feature I had heard about, but like previous, I had never tried it. The hardest part is deciding what I deem to be worthy of my attention. I can see where this would be a very useful thing for the person who wants to keep up on many different things and knows where they want the updates to come from. This also strikes me as a tool that one would want to update frequently as web pages and or blogs are discovered. I don't know that I would ever be a heavy user of this tool but good to know it exsists and now...how to use it!

Thing 2

Feb. 15, 2008

I watched the video and read the article about Web 2.0 and found both items very informative. I knew nothing about Web 2.0, so in just this one assignment I feel I have made huge leaps in my awareness and knowledge of Web 2.0.

I really like the interview and agreed with many of the points. The statement about getting people back into libraries because libraries that have 2.0 technology are relevent to peoples everyday lives was particularly poignent. It makes sense that if a patron is used to using the newest technology available, they would be discouraged by outdated technoloy offered at their local library and look elsewhere to find what they want. I also agree that since society seems to be going in a 2.0 direction, libraries need to go there also to remain important to society.

I feel behind the times when it comes to 2.0 knowledge so I am looking forward to the rest of the 23 Things!

Thing 1 continued...

It has been a week now since setting up my blog page, and I have to say that it was easier than I thought it would be. I always figured people took a day to get something like this off the ground and then had to devote a lot of attention and time to managing it.

The most difficult part of the whole process was all the choices. I had no idea what an avatar was and when someone explained it to me I thought I would just choose a picture from a group and be done. Little did I know that they would be SO customized. Apologies to my co-worker whose lunch break got delayed while I scanned all the options. Anyway, I feel I have accomplished something here, and the curtain has been lifted from the wizard who held all the secrets to blogging.
